Innovative Research and Techniques in Astronomy Communication

What is

iaus409

Engineers in protective suits work on telescopic mirrors in a high-tech lab.

Innovative Research and Techniques in Astronomy Communication will take place at the National Astronomical Observatory of Japan (NAOJ) at the Mitaka Campus in Tokyo, Japan. NAOJ was chosen to host this Symposium due to the collaborative science communication ecosystem it has developed among local and regional universities and institutions.

During this Symposium, astronomy and science communication researchers will share knowledge about evidence-based ways to improve astronomers’ capacity to discuss their work with their peers, policymakers, funders, and the public. These two communities will facilitate discussions around gaps in science communication research and areas for future investigation.

This Symposium will be the first of its kind at the IAU, reinforcing the professionalisation of astronomy communication and solidifying its deep importance to the science of astronomy.
