With its extensive hospitality infrastructure, Tokyo offers a comfortable and welcoming stay for participants travelling from around the world. Known for its safety, cleanliness, and careful attention to detail, the city creates an atmosphere where meaningful conversations can unfold naturally. From quiet gardens and outstanding museums to striking contemporary architecture and an exceptional food scene (not to mention excellent coffee), Tokyo provides a distinctive setting for dialogue and cultural exchange.

National Astronomical
Observatory of Japan

The IAU Symposium, Innovative Research and Techniques in Astronomy Communication, will take place at the National Astronomical Observatory of Japan (NAOJ). Located roughly 45 minutes west of central Tokyo, NAOJ has been headquartered in Mitaka for over 100 years and serves as Japan’s leading centre for astronomical research. As an inter-university research institute within the National Institutes of Natural Sciences, NAOJ coordinates and supports cutting-edge observational, theoretical, and technological work across the astronomical community. Its research spans fields from solar physics and radio astronomy to cosmology and instrumentation development, and it plays a central role in major international collaborations and observatory projects in Japan and abroad, including the operation of large-scale facilities and advanced instrumentation that enable discoveries at the frontiers of astrophysics.

As an institution dedicated to both astronomy communication and research, NAOJ is an ideal venue for fostering discussions on the next generation of astronomy communication techniques. The world-class 4D2U Theater is a venue for both public engagement and scientific research, demonstrating the power of immersive dome projections to explore real astronomical data in four dimensions. By combining rigorous research, technological innovation, and creative approaches to sharing the universe with diverse audiences, NAOJ provides a fitting and inspiring setting for a symposium dedicated to advancing the theory and practice of astronomy communication.
