3D-Printed Astronomy Models
Description
We will have on display a wide variety of our 3D printed 3D and tactile astronomy models for visitors to explore. Our models were developed as part of our STEM “Career Exploration Lab” program for teaching astronomy to students with blindness/visual impairments (please visit Poster Session 2.6 for details). Models include a 3D constellation, tactile Moon phases, a tactile Hertzsprung-Russell diagram, various 3D models of Eta Carinae’s “Homunculus” nebula and colliding stellar winds, various 3D galaxies (based on Hubble Space Telescope data), a tactile Hubble tuning fork diagram, the surface of Pluto (based on New Horizons data), and more.
