Abstract:
The Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology Graduate University (OIST) is an interdisciplinary graduate university offering a 5-year PhD program in Science and Technology. OIST considers diversity and inclusion as an essential element of a world-class institution, and the culture of diversity and inclusion is imbedded in everything we do at OIST.
As a result, OIST is diverse in many ways. Faculty, researchers and students come from over 60 countries: with no departmental walls, diverse scientific perspectives are brought together resulting in many multi-disciplinary collaborations in research and education. Nevertheless, one area of diversity that needs improvement at OIST is gender balance.
Acknowledging this shortcoming, the OIST leadership established a gender equality taskforce in 2013 and developed strategies to increase gender diversity, which will be introduced in this talk.
It is hoped that the talk will be a starting point for a lively discussion on the gender equality in science and technology at research institutions.

アブストラクト：
沖縄科学技術大学院大学(OIST)は、科学技術分野における５年制の学際的な大学院です。OISTではダイバーシティ（多様性）とインクルージョン（多様性の受け入れ）を、世界をリードする研究機関に必要不可欠な要素ととらえ、文化面でのダイバーシティとインクルージョンを全ての活動に組み込んでいます。
その結果、OISTでは多くの点で多様性を発揮しています。教授陣、研究者、学生は世界の60ヶ国以上から集まっています。学部間の「壁」はありません。研究と教育における多様な科学的なものの見方は、複数の分野にまたがる共同研究によりもたらされています。
このような取り組みにも関わらず、改善が必要なのは、男女数のバランスです。この問題を克服すべく、OISTでは2013年に男女共同参画タスクフォースを設立し、ジェンダーにおける多様性を高める戦略をたてました。
本講演では、この取り組みについてご紹介します。本講演が、科学技術の研究機関における男女共同参画の活発な議論の出発点となることを期待いたします。
