Title: Under One Sky: Overview of the consideration and implementation of Equity, Diversity and Inclusion on the IAU 100th Anniversary Celebrations
In the framework of the IAU100 global celebrations in 2019, the IAU is organising a year-long celebration to increase awareness of a century of astronomical discoveries and to support the use of astronomy as a tool for education, development and diplomacy under the central theme “Under One Sky”. Throughout the year, thousands of activities are taking place at local, regional, national and global scales in over 130 countries.
One of the key goals of the IAU100 celebrations is to support and improve an inclusive, egalitarian and diverse astronomy community. In this talk, I will give an overview of the preparation and implementation of such large-scale initiative and how equity, diversity and inclusion aspects have been considered during its implementation. In addition, I will give an overview of several IAU100 activities around the world that engaged different underrepresented groups that are usually not reached with astronomy public engagement activities. Finally, best practices, challenges and lessons learnt will be presented with the aim to contribute towards an inclusive development of the field of astronomy in every country as stated on the IAU Strategic Plan 2020-2030.
