Dr. Shirin Haque,

University of the West Indies,
St Augustine, Trinidad and Tobago.

The Caribbean is an extremely diverse region with its history, multitude of islands, languages and culture.
The definition of what comprises the Caribbean even, is diverse! Yet, we share a common, stunning place on planet earth
blessed with a generous view of the northern and southern skies. We are united by the skies yet divided by the seas. This has raised challenges unique to this region. We will examine the growth of Astronomy, with regard to research, education and outreach in this region over the past few decades despite the hurdles and explore the challenges yet to be overcome.
